KYC Verification: Government ID

Why do I need to provide a government ID?

In order to keep all users safe, an identity check must be performed before marketplace transactions can take place. All requested identification documents must be submitted online, during the KYC process – we cannot accept emailed copies of your identity documents.

Users will be required to submit their government-issued ID during the KYC process; this will verify that users are in possession of a valid, unexpired government ID.

Example:

What Kinds of ID’s are acceptable?

  • United States

    • U.S. residents can use any of the following forms of identification:

    • Driver License

    • State ID

    • Passport

    • Passport Card

    • Permanent Resident Card

    • Non-Citizen Travel Document

  • Canada

    • Residents of Canada can use any of the following forms of identification:

    • Driver License

    • Healthcare Insurance Card

    • Provincial ID

    • Passport

    • Passport Card

    • Permanent Resident Card

  • Western Europe

    • If you are located within this region, the KYC process will require you to submit either: Government-issued IDs, such as a Driver’s License, official Identification Card or Government-issued passport.

  • Rest of the World (RoW)

    • The KYC process will require you to submit an appropriate form of identification dependent on your region.

What are Unaccepted Identification Documents?

Regardless of where you are based, these identification documents will not be accepted when going through the KYC process:

  • School IDs

  • Medical IDs

  • Temporary (paper) IDs (a temporary license, for instance)

  • Public Services Card

  • Military IDs

  • Global Entry Cards

My ID is not being accepted; What am I doing wrong?

Try the following suggestions:

  • If you’re submitting your driver's license or ID card, take a photo of both the front and the back of your ID in a well-lit area, free of any glare.

  • Make sure that your ID is in focus and fully visible for the photo.

  • If your photos are routinely blurry, try using a different device (a different mobile, laptop, or desktop may have a better camera).

  • Make sure the ID you are using is valid, not damaged, and not expired.

  • Please make sure that the correct issuing country and document type is selected for your ID.

  • A scanned image or copy of your ID is not allowed. Take a picture yourself (preferably using your smartphone) and upload the image.

  • Smartphones typically produce clearer photos than webcams. If you must use a webcam, try setting the ID flat on a stable surface, and move the webcam to the ID instead of bringing the ID to the webcam.

  • Avoid lighting that may cause glare (natural light typically works best).

  • Rest your ID on a plain, dark surface.

  • Don’t hold the ID in your hands as your fingers may confuse the lens’ focus.

KYC Verification: Selfies

Why do I need to provide a selfie?

This is just a required part of the KYC verification process. Users will be required to take a live, 3 point selfie verification using the KYC Process:

My Selfie is not being accepted; What am I doing wrong?

Try the following suggestions:

  • When taking your selfie, remain still until your photo is captured and displayed on the screen. There is a slight lag between the camera reading your face and capturing your image. If you move, the photo will come out blurry. Please remove any objects covering your face (e.g. glasses or hat).

  • Face the camera directly and ensure it remains eye-level.

  • Pose in front of a plain wall or background.

  • Try to match your appearance as much as possible to your ID photo.
